In this post, I would like to talk about the listener profile for MyKitaab Podcast. I have always wondered why people listen to MyKitaab and where they come from. Also, who they are and how do they listen to the episodes. That is, the device they use to listen to the podcast. The reviews answer the WHY . But many of the other questions sometimes remain unanswered.
Fortunately, Audioboom, the media host we use, provides some information. So Let us see what that information is. I am posting the data for a seven day period between August 16th and 22nd, 2016. This should be treated as a snapshot- listeners statistics vary from week to week.
56% of listeners of MyKitaab Podcast are Male. There have been some weeks though, when two thirds of listeners are women. Generally speaking, equal number of men and women listen to MyKitaab Podcast.
Nearly one third of listeners are in the age group 18 to 25 years, and a quarter of them are between 35 and 44 years of age. The remaining 45 percent of the listeners are between 25 and 34 years of age,. This makes it a really interesting split of listeners age-wise!
Where do they come from?
An overwhelming majority of the 1,155 listeners (nearly 2 out of 3 listeners) who listened to MyKitaab Podcast last week was from the United States. It might be because I had tweaked my social media marketing to focus on that geography, but the sudden shift is quite interesting. Typically, half the listeners are from the United States, a Third from India, about 10 percent from the UK, and the rest from the rest of the world. This week? France and Germany and even Russia and Iraq featured on the list. India was a distant fifth at around 4% of the listeners. This is just a blip though, I am sure in the coming weeks the share of listeners would move to the long term trend.
How do they listen to MyKitaab?
Around 90 percent of listeners use a desktop or laptop, Therefore, the assumption could be that they listen to the episodes while at work. 40 percent of the listeners use iTunes or iOS podcast players, around 20% use android app, another third use other players. For example, podcast players on Windows or Linux, or listen from the embedded player on the MyKitaab website .
Where do we go from here?
Like I mentioned earlier, I intend to make this a quarterly reporting, I have not seen any other podcaster in India report their numbers openly. Thanks to the influence of Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income and John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneur on Fire, and many others who believe in transparency, here I am sharing the numbers in the form of Listener Profile. In the coming weeks, as the updated website and the improved marketing push begins to show its effect, I hope the numbers will go in the direction that the chart below shows: UP
